It offers an overview of the basic concepts of communication, crosscultural communication, and interpretive theory, discusses the specificity of the interpreter function vis-à-vis utterance, authorship, authority, translation, adaptation, interpretation, edition, validation, certification, ownership and comprehension; reviews the specificities of medical, legal, financial and critical terminologies and domain-specific interpreting skills including consecutive, simultaneous, note-taking, sight and sworn translation, as well as the distinctions between codes of ethics and professional codes of conduct.

IPL101 offers an individualized diagnostic assessment of each participant’s learning style, professional linguistic skills in both the source and target languages, crosscultural communication theory, interpreting functions, domain-specific terminology, interpreting sills, knowledge and understanding of frameworks and professional codes of conduct.

Based on this diagnostic, every participant receives an individualized roadmap with precise steps, materials, and achievable goals to bring their linguistic fluency to professional level.

As a group, participants will learn how to acquire, expand and maintain technological fluency in agent orchestration, CATs, post-machine translation editing, reporting and compliance, human-centered localization and interpreting practices, language validation and bilingual project, program and portfolio management skills.

Participants will learn how to create a second brain, become AI owners, and how skillsets are leveraged and monetized through that route.

Participants will then have the opportunity to develop a proposal and test a path or business model of their own in a micro-incubator, that uses career and business simulation strategies to test their projects and proposals.

Dr. Alan Jose is the director of
ΗVMΛ INTL Education
Dr. Alan Jose is a linguist and policy specialist in the practice and legal economy of understanding —a subset of intellectual property— and the principal architect of intelligible property theory. Dr. Jose has held academic and administrative positions at UC Berkeley, Wake Forest, Duke and Princeton universities; consultive positions at the World Bank and the OAS; and served as cabinet member and diplomat for the government of Mexico. Dr. Jose is a certified interpreter and translator, and certified NAFTA mediator. Dr. Jose has a PhD and MPP from UC Berkeley, and certificates on public benefit organization management from Duke U. and in fundraising from Indiana U. He is currently a senior fellow at HVMA Labs, where he serves as ED of ΗVMΛ at Humanities Applied.
